How to get here
Kiruna has good air, rail, and road connections. It is recommended to use winter tyres from mid-October until mid-April. This is provided on all rental cars.
Travel by air
Daily flights to/from Stockholm-Arlanda to Kiruna Airport, the flight-time is 1,5 hrs. Kiruna Airport is located 10 km from Kiruna C. Taxi service or rental cars are recommended for local transport. Flights are operated by SAS and Norwegian.
Travel by railway
Train connections daily to/from Stockholm with overnight train, 14-24 hrs travel time – couchette and sleeping wagons available. Kiruna town center is on a walking distance (10 min) from Kiruna train station but taxi is recommended if you have luggage. Trains are operated by SJ all year around and during high season also Veolia.
Travel by road
Kiruna is 4 hrs drive from Luleå (east coast). Drive highway E10 and turn right at the crossroads to Jukkasjärvi (ICEHOTEL) 10 km before Kiruna – roadsign “ESRANGE” to follow. In the middle of the Jukkasjärvi village, turn left and drive the last 25 km to Esrange Space Center.
To reach Kiruna from Narvik (west coast – Norway), drive 2 hrs on highway E10.
Both Luleå and Narvik have international airports operated by several airlines.
Local drive, Kiruna to Esrange
There is no public transportation. Car or taxi must be used. The distance is 45 km, driving time is about 45 minutes.
From Kiruna airport or the town of Kiruna, drive south on highway E10. At about 10 km south of Kiruna C, turn left towards Jukkasjärvi until you find yourself in the middle of the village. There you turn left again and follow the roadsigns to Esrange, around 25 km east of Jukkasjärvi.

Esrange has an agreement with AVIS and can arrange rental cars if an advance request is made. The cars are made available at the airport or the railway station upon arrival in Kiruna and/or left at these locations upon departure – arrange in reservation.
Taxi
It is recommended to make an advance reservation for taxi. On flight arrival/departure, shared FlightTaxi Kiruna Airport – Kiruna C (“Flygtaxi”) is available on reservation. Approx cost for taxi Kiruna C – Esrange 700-850 SEK.
