Spaceport Sweden won the Innovator of the Year Award at the Grand Travel Awards, the Oscars of the travel industry, which took place at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday evening February 13th.
The Travel Awards is organised by Travel News, the leading trade magazine, and was held for the 22nd year in a row, seeing some 600 guests attending the ceremony last night.
Following is the motivation by the jury:
Spaceport Sweden is together with the tourism industry positioning Kiruna as a world-leading destination for space tourism. A complete space destination is being developed with adventures both on the ground and in the air with unique high quality tourism products. Exclusive northern light flights in the winter have been followed the offering of zero-g flights where Spaceport Sweden has become a reseller.
We are very happy and this award represents both an acknowledgment of the work we do and support going forward, where increased competition, new audiences and markets will require new innovative ideas, persistence and courage to take a world leading position.
Other nominees in the category Innovator of the Year were Gothia Towers / Upper House and Viking Grace.
