Northern Light Flights

Last winter season saw the world premiere of Northern light flights as Spaceport Sweden’s first space adventure offering customer an exclusive view of the magical northern light.

For the winter season of 2013, Spaceport Sweden has collaborated with the ICEHOTEL, Lapland Resorts, Swedavia Kiruna Airport and the Institute of Space Physics for a continued offering to learn more about and experience the magical northern lights from the front row where also Direktflyg welcomed as new air service provider.

The Kiruna region is situated within the aurora zone and has among the best prerequisites in the world to see the northern lights, the basis for Kiruna’s extensive space heritage with over 60 years experience of space physics research. Working together with the world leading Institute of Space Physics, clients will be given the opportunity to both experience and learn more about the magical space phenomena of the northern lights and through collaboration with Direktflyg, the capacity is increased to 12 window seats.

“The conditions for aurora are excellent this season. We are very excited to be able, in cooperation with our partners, to offer our northern light flights with increased capacity meeting the great demand for this unique space adventure”, says Karin Nilsdotter, CEO of Spaceport Sweden.

The solar activity, which causes the northern lights, peaks every 11 years, so the aurora borealis tends to be more frequent and intense at these times. Additionally, the years following a peak see increased northern lights activity – this winter, we are now reaching the peak and the next two winters are expected to be very active and exciting.

Spaceport Sweden has collaborated with the ICEHOTEL and Lapland Resorts offering packages to Swedish Lapland for a full experience of the aurora and the region. The flights will start off on January 31st and will be available until mid March. Prices for packages start from 6 610 SEK and can be found on;
